EGR issues left the BMW hesitant, then breathless on the rise, a pause at every junction and nothing when the road went up. Those issues are gone. It is smooth, strong through the middle, and easier in traffic. I am on the brakes less because I am not over-correcting a lurch. Lush. The Friday road was calmer and the fuel was no worse. I am less tired, which is a soft claim and a true one. The car asks for less management. I notice the space that leaves.

It pulls away cleanly and the cruise asks for less of my foot. Easier week.
The gain I use is the in-gear pull, not a party piece. Hills shrink.
Same hill, same traffic, far less effort. It just gets on with it.
An amazing job. The Volkswagen feels sorted rather than souped up: the hill sorted, the throttle sorted, the cruise sorted. It tows up the lane without the howl and, empty, it is calmer than it was standard. I asked for that balance and I got it. Fuel on the light run home is a touch better. Bang on. He talked me through the runs without rushing me out of the door. I left convinced, and a month of use has not talked me out of it. I would send a mate.
There is usable torque in the Ford now, the sort you feel between junctions rather than on a poster. Spot on.
Buzzing. The Audi is transformed.
They mapped a Ceed for me, then this Sportage, and before that a van I have since sold. I know the drive home, and I know the hill just before the roundabout. Standard, it always changed down. Mapped, it pulls up and is still gathering speed at the top. I reset the fuel economy and left it for a fortnight of the usual miles. It is up, not by a wild amount, but enough that the extra performance has not cost me at the pump. I asked them to soften the take-up because my partner found it keen. They did it the next day and rang her, not just me, to ask how it felt on her drive to work. That is the aftersale support that makes a second and third car an easy decision.
The DPF light and the AdBlue fault were a pair in the Mercedes, arriving together on a loaded hill and lingering afterwards. Solved together. It holds the gear, I am topping up on a normal interval, and the cruise needs less of my foot. A full week of drops and not a lamp. Couldn't be happier. I have taken the spare bottle out of the cab. The van starts and goes. I did not realise how much of the morning had become a negotiation until the negotiation stopped.
I ended up watching the fish in reception longer than I watched my phone. A proper shoal, something always moving. The drive afterwards matched the wait. Class.
DPF and AdBlue together had become a weekly drama if I so much as looked at a hill. Finished. It climbs and uses less AdBlue. Chuffed to bits.
I took the same Friday run I have done for years in the Volkswagen. The long pull no longer forces a shift, and I got home with more left in the tank. Well made up.
DPF regen had been aborting for months, hence the light, the smoke, and the limp mode on hills in the Audi. They saw one through to the end. It has stayed healthy through the short weeks that used to kill it, and that climb is dull again. No warning, no smell. Highly chuffed. The throttle in town is cleaner as well, so the fix was not only the absence of a lamp. The car drives properly. I had forgotten that was the standard until it came back.
Amazing job. The BMW has never sat this easily on the motorway, then still pulled the hill at the far end. Bowled over, genuinely.
The cruise used to hunt on gradients. It holds now, and the response in town is cleaner too. Well chuffed.
A DPF warning returned every time the journey was short, then a hill finished it. They got the system regenerating instead of aborting. No light since. Thrilled.
Second car at this garage. The Octavia vRS pulls hard up hills and the fuel economy on a steady run has not suffered. They rang after the weekend to check the first proper drive.
A month of the same commute and I am changing down less, smiling more, and using a bit less on the steady half. The mid-range does the work the gearbox used to panic about, so the hill at the edge of town is a flex. It is cleaner off the roundabout without being sharp, which keeps the school run humane. Chuffed to bits. I had a list of doubts and the car has answered them by being ordinary in a better way. Ordinary and able. That is the combination I was after.
EGR issues left the Mercedes hesitant, then breathless when the road went up. Those issues are gone. Smooth, strong, and easier in traffic. Tidy.
The Audi collected DPF warnings and AdBlue warnings like stamps. None have been back. It pulls the hill and a top-up is a rare job. Overjoyed.
