The Discovery I had before this one was remapped at the same garage, so there was no debate about where the new one was going. Towing up the long hill to the main road used to be a slog. It pulls now, and it does not feel as if it is hunting for the next gear. When the trailer is off, the fuel economy on a steady run is better than I expected from a car with this much extra pull. I popped back because the gearbox felt a touch keen to kick down. They adjusted it, explained what they had changed, and told me to come back if I still was not sure. That aftersale support, on top of already knowing the last car, is why they keep getting the work.

I reset the economy display and left it alone, because I did not want a result that only looked good for a week. A month later the figure is up, and the hill by the park is no longer a downchange. In traffic it is cleaner off the mark, so the school run is less of a lunge. I am made up. It still behaves when I am just trickling, which mattered more than I admitted when I booked. The car feels lighter on the same roads. Nothing else about it had to change for that to be true.

A sticking EGR had the Mercedes idling roughly and dying on the hill, warm or cold, it did not seem to mind. Issue dealt with, it pulls evenly and starts clean. The coast road is a higher gear, overtakes take less tarmac, and the cruise sits. I am not compensating for a flat spot. Tidy result. I did the Friday run with the boot full and it did not do the old trick of changing down twice. Well chuffed with how ordinary that felt, because ordinary was the aim.

Another car through the same garage. The Tucson pulls up hills without the strain, and the fuel economy on a run has improved. They followed up by phone and told me to come back if anything felt off.

AdBlue one day, a DPF warning the next, and the van miserable on both, especially loaded on the hill leaving the estate. That routine is over. It keeps a pace up the climb, pulls away without the pause, and I have stopped carrying a spare bottle like a lucky charm. Empty, the run back uses a little less fuel. Couldn't be happier. Mornings used to start with a lamp and a decision about whether the round was even possible. They start with the keys now. The Volkswagen is a tool again, which is all I wanted.

Free coffee, a proper mug, and nobody rushing me out of the chair. I drank it while they finished and it was fresh enough to notice. Then the drive home, which is why I was grinning. The hill out of the close is one gear, there is more between forty and seventy, and it has not turned into a handful in traffic. I was nervous it would be peaky. It is not. A week of the same roads and the car asks less of me. Buzzing. Small thing, the coffee, and it made the start of the morning feel considered rather than processed.

Not the first car, and it will not be the last. The Leon pulls up the hill in a higher gear, the fuel economy is healthy, and they rang to make sure the first week had gone well.

The DPF light returned every time the journey was short, then a hill finished the argument with limp mode. I had tried the long-way-home cure and it did nothing. They got the system regenerating instead of aborting, and they did not guess. No warning since, no smoke on pull-away, and the climb past the park is easy. The Audi is calmer at a cruise as well. Thrilled. I have done a month of the short hops that used to ruin it, and the light has stayed dark. That is the test I actually live.

I did not want a louder car. I wanted the hill near home to stop being an event, the one we all brace for with a full boot. That is exactly what happened. It stays in gear, the pull is earlier, and the throttle in the car park is sweeter rather than snatchy. I took the long way on Friday to be sure. The cruise was lazier and I got in with more left than last time. Well pleased. It still feels like our car, just less of a project, and I keep waiting for the downchange that does not come.

Not my first visit. The Qashqai pulls up the hill with the boot full, and the fuel economy is at least as good as before. They texted a week later to check in.

EGR issues were choking the Ford in traffic and leaving nothing for the hill. It would stumble off the lights and then go flat exactly where I needed it. Those issues are gone. It is smooth off the line, strong through the middle, and much easier to place in a gap. I am changing down less and the cruise holds a gradient without a hunt. Mint. A couple of weeks of the usual miles and I am less tired at the end of them, which is the sort of result you only notice once it has happened.

This is the third time I have used them. A Corsa years ago, then the wife's Audi, and now the Passat I do the miles in. Pulling up the hill out of the valley used to mean planning the gear in advance. The car just goes now. Fuel economy was the part I was wary of, and on the motorway it has gone the right way. After the first fortnight I thought it was holding onto a gear a little long, so I rang. They had a slot two days later, made a small change, and rang me that evening to ask how the drive home felt. I have not needed them since, but I know the aftersale support is there, which is why the next one is already going to them.

What an amazing job he did on the Mercedes. I have had it on the same motorway for years and it has never sat this easily, then still pulled the hill at the far end with people in the back. The throttle is cleaner in town, not sharper, and the gearbox seems less busy. I towed at the weekend and the lane that used to howl was a steady pull. Bowled over. He would not hand it over until the run looked right, and the road agreed with him. I would send the next one there without a second thought.

DPF and AdBlue together had the BMW threatening not to start some mornings, then limping if I asked it for the hill. I was carrying a bottle as if it were a tool. Both problems are solved. It climbs without changing down, a top-up lasts a proper interval, and the cruise needs less of my foot. Fuel on the commute has crept the right way as well. Fair made up. I trust it for the trip now, which I did not a month ago. The dash is clear and I have stopped having the conversation about selling it.

Third vehicle I have taken to them. The Ranger pulls the trailer up the hill far more cleanly, and the fuel economy when it is empty is no worse. They followed up after the first towing trip.

Oscar Z

A blocked-feeling DPF had it smoky and limp on the climb to work, three mornings in a row at one point. They saw a regeneration through until it finished, rather than sending me off to hope. The smoke has stopped, the light is out, and the Volkswagen pulls that hill in a higher gear. I have stopped checking the dash every junction, mostly. Highly chuffed. Town driving is cleaner too, and the cruise on the way home sits instead of striving. It smells like a normal car again. That was the part I had not realised I was living with.

Roundabouts used to need a run-up, especially with the boot full. They do not. The mid-range is simply there, and the box has calmed down instead of kicking at every slight rise. I noticed it on the way home and then again the next morning in the queues, where it no longer lunges. A tank seems to last a little longer on the steady road I do most days. Chuffed to bits. It still trickles when I want it quiet. I did not come in for a noisy car, and I did not get one. The hill at the end of the bypass is boring now. I will take boring.

Back again with another car, which says enough. The Octavia pulls strongly up hills and the fuel economy on my commute is up a little. They emailed a fortnight later to ask how it was behaving.

Reception was great, warm without being sticky, and they actually came out when they said they would. I had a question about the booking and nobody sighed. That set the morning up properly. The car I drove home was the other half. It holds a higher gear on the hill out of the village, picks up more cleanly from the roundabout, and the cruise asks for less of my foot. I have done the school run all week and it has not turned snatchy, which was the fear. Left proper pleased. I would book the same way again for the driving, and the desk is why I did not feel processed.

I had the old Passat remapped with them back in 2016 and took the newer one in as soon as I bought it. Same garage, same straight answers. The long pull up the bypass used to need a downchange and now it sits in gear and climbs. On a run to see family the fuel economy is better than the old car managed, even with the extra go. I noticed a flat spot after a fortnight of short trips and mentioned it when I rang. They booked me back in, had another look, and it has been right ever since. You do not get that kind of aftersale support everywhere.
