The DPF had stopped completing anything useful, so the Ford ended every short week in limp mode and a hill finished the job. They put that right and showed me it had finished, rather than hoping. The warning is dark, the smoke has gone, and the climb is easy. I have done the little hops since, shops and school, and it has stayed healthy. Well chuffed. Town driving is cleaner into the bargain. I am not apologising for the smell at the lights, which had become a habit I resented.

EGR issues were choking it in traffic and leaving nothing for the rise. With those gone, the pull is back and the idle is clean. Dead chuffed.

Lush. The Volkswagen is awake.

I took a 320d to them in 2019 and a 520d last spring, so this X5 was booked in before I had even driven it home. The hill onto the main road used to have the gearbox kicking down every time. It pulls up in the higher gear now, even with the boot loaded. I have compared fill-ups over two months and the fuel economy is better on the motorway and no worse in town. One cold morning it felt hesitant, so I used the number they gave me at handover. They had a look the same day, found it was a tired battery rather than the remap, and still road-tested the file again before I left. I do not take cars anywhere else now.

There is a big tank of fish in reception and they are properly interesting, not decoration. I watched them the whole time. Belting pleased afterwards.

I kept the fuel receipts because I am that sort of bore. Heavy days are level and the light days are a little better, which is the right way round. The driving change is the hill. It used to fade and change down. It pulls through now, and the throttle from a junction is cleaner, so I am not surging into traffic. Proper pleased. A month of the same work and I am less tired at the end of it. The car is more driveable in the places I actually use, not on a poster.

Every climb used to bring a DPF light and then an AdBlue moan. Not now. The Volkswagen holds the gear with people in the back, and both warnings have stayed dark. Overjoyed.

Menna A

Cold mornings used to be a pause and a hunt for a gear. It moves off cleanly now, takes the hill by the school without a kickdown, and still behaves when the road is busy. Grinning like a fool.

What an amazing job he did. The Mercedes came back pulling like it had been built that way, hills included, and it still trickles through town. Highly chuffed.

Reception was great under pressure, two of us waiting and a slot overrun, and nobody was left out or sighed at. They said what the new time was and meant it. I left cock-a-hoop. The Mercedes I drove home holds the coast-road hill in a higher gear with the boot full, overtakes take less tarmac, and the cruise sits. It has not gone sharp in town. A week on, I am not bracing for that climb. The welcome was part of a visit that felt straightforward, and the driving is why I would repeat it.

Rajesh Y

Roundabouts used to need a run-up. They do not. The mid-range is simply there, and the box has calmed right down. Chuffed to bits.

Cai X

A blocked-feeling DPF had it smoky and limp before I even reached work. They stayed until a regeneration completed. The smoke has gone, the light is out, and the morning hill is ordinary. Smashing.

Another car to the same garage. The E220 pulls up hills without dropping a gear, and the fuel economy on the motorway is up. They phoned after the first week.

Richard W

The EGR fault showed up as a cough in traffic and then nothing on the hill in the Audi. Sorted, it is smooth, willing, and much easier to place in a gap. Tidy.

Philip N

The gearbox used to panic, kicking down on rises that did not deserve it, then hunting on the way back to a tall gear. It stays put now. Forty to seventy is a shorter piece of road, and the cruise holds a gradient with less foot. I have done the commute in the wet and in the dry and it behaves in both. Well pleased. Passengers have said it feels less busy, which I had felt and not named. The hill at the end has stopped being the moment the car goes quiet in a bad way.

DPF one week, AdBlue the next, and any hard pull set both off. Finished. It climbs cleanly and a top-up is no longer a habit. Couldn't be happier.

Hywel U

Months of a DPF fault had made every hill a gamble. They got it regenerating properly rather than guessing. The Ford pulls that climb in a higher gear, the smoke on pull-away has stopped, and I am thrilled.

Keith M

In-gear pull is the whole story. The hill out of the village does not need a downchange, even with the boot full, and joining the main road takes half the space it used to. I am not planning overtakes a field ahead. Around town it trickles without the old pause, so it has not become a nuisance at the lights. A fortnight of the usual miles and the figure on the steady bits is slightly kinder. Tidy. I came back the long way the first night and knew before I was home. The car asks less. That is the change.

Brian T

Mint. Proper pull now.

Emlyn S

Free coffee while I waited, decent enough that I had a second cup. Small thing, and I still drove home cock-a-hoop.
